A Deal Sponsor in NIL Go, formerly referred to as a payor, is the entity which ultimately benefits from the use of a student-athlete’s NIL. A Deal Sponsor may utilize a Facilitator to coordinate a deal with a student-athlete, but the student-athlete’s obligations will benefit the Deal Sponsor’s business purpose, rather than the Facilitator’s. Often this means that any obligations a student-athlete completes will be for the purpose of promoting this Sponsor. All deals reported in NIL Go must have a Sponsor listed.
The Sponsor is the originating source of all compensation for a deal, regardless of who makes the payment to the student-athlete. Additionally, the deal must be for a valid business purpose related to the promotion and endorsement of goods or services provided to the general public for profit.
Deal Facilitators, formerly known as third-party service providers, should not be entered in as Sponsors in NIL. If an entity that is not the Sponsor is making a payment to a student-athlete, their LLC, or their representative, that entity should be entered as the Deal Facilitator. Click here for more information on how to enter a deal that involves a Facilitator.
